The ACOE uses its engineering capabilities to address a wide variety of engineering challenges that may be found at brownfield sites, including but not limited to: flood control and navigation; remediation; environmental restoration, stewardship and compliance; infrastructure renewal and water resource development.

The Brownfields Economic Development Initiative (BEDI) is a key competitive grant program that HUD administers to stimulate and promote economic and community development.
National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
NOAA’s role is as the primary coastal stewardship agency. Since 1997, the Department of Commerce and NOAA have contributed funding, facilitation, and/or technical expertise at coastal Brownfields sites.

NOAA has provided services ranging from technical assistance, marketing and outreach, and financial assistance to several coastal Showcase Communities. - NOAA
Portfields Initiative
Portfields is a NOAA led federal interagency effort that focuses on the redevelopment of brownfields in port and harbor areas. - NOAA has also created a lessons learned report that summarizes progress made during the second year in the three Portfields pilot locations.
