Superfund Legal Support
The Superfund practice group provides counseling and enforcement services to our regional Superfund Program staff under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), commonly known as the Superfund law. The law provides for the cleanup of abandoned hazardous waste sites by potentially responsible parties (PRPs) and federal facilities, including base realignment and closure (BRAC).
The responsibilities of attorneys in this group include the investigation of how the sites were contaminated and negotiation and/or litigation with PRPs to undertake any necessary cleanups or repayments to the taxpayers for the cost of EPA cleaning up the sites.
