The following is a listing of some of the larger organizations that accept food donations. Many additional opportunities exist for donating unwanted food to local area shelters and food pantries.

Feeding America

Description: As a domestic hunger-relief charity, the Feeding America network members supply food to more than 37 million Americans each year, including 14 million children and 3 million seniors.

Connecticut

Connecticut Food Bank

Description: Connecticut Food is a private, nonprofit organization that provides food to 650 food- assistance programs such as soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries, and adult and child day care centers in Connecticut. CFB is the largest centralized source of donated, emergency food in Connecticut. The main warehouse is located in East Haven, with branch warehouses in Waterbury and Fairfield, and distribution sites in New London and Stamford.

Maine

Good Shepherd Food Bank

New Hampshire

New Hampshire Food Bank

Description: New Hampshire Food Bank is a program of New Hampshire Catholic Charities, and serves as the only food bank in the state. Each year the Food Bank distributes over 4 million pounds of donated, surplus food to nearly 350 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, day care centers, senior citizen homes and substance abuse treatment centers.

Description: The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is a registered 501c(3) non-profit organization. Currently, the Food Bank serves 51,000 Rhode Islanders each month and has an annual distribution of approximately nine million pounds.

Vermont

Vermont Food Bank

Description: The Vermont Foodbank, Vermont's only food bank, serves 270 sites that assist 66,000 Vermonters each year. In 2006, the Vermont Foodbank distributed nearly 6.5 million pounds of food to its Network Partners.
