Public Meeting to Discuss Community Advisory Group, Carter Carburetor Site, St. Louis, Missouri
INTRODUCTION
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 will host a public meeting to share information about the EPA process for forming a Community Advisory Group (CAG) at Superfund sites.
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING
EPA is conducting the meeting to provide an opportunity for residents near the Carter Carburetor Site to consider the option of forming a CAG. This group can serve as a liaison between EPA and the community when questions or concerns are expressed from residents and other interested parties about EPA activities at the Carter Carburetor Site.
COMMUNITY ADVISORY GROUPS
EPA is committed to involving the public in the Superfund cleanup process. CAGs help communities get recognition, guidance and other support that will put them in partnership with EPA. CAGs are designed to meet the needs of all community members, and to play an important role in bringing these voices to EPA's attention.
ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE OUTREACH
In addition to discussing a CAG there will also be a representative from EPA's Environmental Justice Program who will offer information on the Environmental Initiative.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Carter Carburetor Site, a large industrial property at 2800 to 2840 North Spring Street, in north St. Louis, Mo., is a former gasoline and
diesel carburetor manufacturing plant. The facility was in operation from the 1930s until it closed in 1984. Unacceptable levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), trichloroethylene (TCE), and asbestos were found at the site.
