Public Comment Period and Opportunity for Public Hearing Announced for Solomon Corporation in Solomon, Kansas - Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Approval #KS0002431880
Renewal Request for Commercial Storage of PCB Waste
INTRODUCTION
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 is requesting public comments and is offering an opportunity for a public hearing on Solomon Corporation, TSCA Approval #KS0002431880. The renewal request is for Solomon’s commercial storage of PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl) waste. As part of the application, Solomon Corporation has included minor updates to the application based on EPA comments. Following the comment period and upon review of all comments, EPA, in consultation with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), will consider approving this renewal and consolidation request.
BACKGROUND
The Solomon Corporation site is located at 302 W. 7th Street, Solomon, Kansas. The site has operated this TSCA PCB-approved storage facility since the initial approval in 2007.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD AND REQUEST FOR PUBLIC HEARING
EPA is accepting written comments and written requests for a public hearing for 30 days beginning August 15, 2012. Comments and/or requests for a public hearing must be received by September 14, 2012. EPA, in consultation with KDHE, will review all comments received during the public comment period and determine whether any modification to the renewal request should be made.
