EPA to Host Public Availability Session for Carter Carburetor Superfund Site, St. Louis, Missouri
PUBLIC AVAILABILITY SESSION
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a Public Availability Session to provide a forum for participants to learn about the next steps in the removal and cleanup of hazardous substances at the Carter Carburetor Site. The session will include an EPA update on the current process. ACF Industries LLC will provide a detailed explanation of work involved in the next phases of the cleanup.

SITE UPDATE
EPA has approved the Demolition Work Plan and Excavation Work Plan Addendums for the Carter Carburetor Site. ACF Industries LLC, the potentially responsible party, has completed over 85 percent of the asbestos abatement phase of the project.
EPA will oversee the demolition and excavation work to ensure that proper procedures are being followed. In addition, EPA will monitor the air to ensure that no significant contamination is leaving the site during this phase.
ACF Industries contractors are currently removing debris from the building and removing lead-based paint by dry-ice blasting and power washing in preparation for demolition. ACF project coordinators are overseeing the demolition and excavation process.

The Demolition Work Plan and Excavation Work Plan Addendums for the Carter Carburetor Site are available for public review on the EPA Region 7 website at: www.epa.gov/region7/cleanup/carter_carburetor
NOTE: There have been some delays in the project for various reasons, including selection of the demolition and excavation contractor. Therefore, EPA has requested that ACF submit a separate schedule for EPA approval shortly after the contractor has been chosen. This stand-alone schedule will replace any schedules in the work plans approved by EPA and will be made available to the public.
