EPA Superfund Technical Assistance Grant, Big River Mine Tailings/St. Joe Minerals Corporation Superfund Site, St. Francois County, Missouri
INTRODUCTION
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 has received a Letter of Intent from the St. Francois Big River Watershed Group and Clean Stream Group. The St. Francois Big River Watershed Group intends to apply for a Technical Assistance Grant (TAG) at the Big River Mine Tailings/St. Joe Minerals Corporation Superfund Site.
TAGs provide up to $50,000 (with a 20 percent cash or in-kind contribution required from the recipient) to hire an advisor to help explain EPA's technical information.
By law, EPA can award only one grant, for up to $50,000. This grant is awarded at a Superfund site that is proposed to, or listed on, the National Priorities List.
Due to this limitation, EPA encourages all interested citizens' groups to work with the St. Francois Big River Watershed Group and file a joint application. If your group is interested in filing a joint application with the St. Francois Big River Watershed Group and Clean Stream Group, you must notify them by May 18, 2010.

Groups wishing to file a separate grant application must submit a Letter of Intent or file an application to EPA. This must be done by May 18, 2010.
All applications must be filed by June 18, 2010. Groups that need more time to file a Letter of Intent or an application may ask EPA for an extension. EPA will consider all extension requests.
