Carter Carburetor Site Update
September 26, 2013
- Debris removal work at the Carter Carburetor Site is proceeding as expected. To date, EPA has not encountered any unexpected issues in the debris removal phase of the project. EPA estimates this phase will be complete in another six to seven weeks, or by mid to late November 2013.
- The next administrative phase in the process is to receive, review and approve the work plan from ACF Industries, a potentially responsible party (PRP). This work plan will detail the work to be completed by ACF Industries’ environmental contractor, including a schedule of activities of the work that will be conducted at the site, how the work will be conducted, and when it will be completed.
- The work plan is due to EPA by January 10, 2014. Assuming only minor comments and changes would occur, the work plan could be approved by mid to late March 2014. On-site work by ACF Industries could then begin by the end of April 2014.
- Although EPA cannot precisely determine the exact date when all site work will be complete, the Agency anticipates that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, all activities could be complete by late 2017.
