Peer Review Workshop Report on Ecological Risk Assessment Issue Papers

Risk Assessment Forum

In August 1994, EPA's Risk Assessment Forum sponsored a workshop to peer review eight ecological risk assessment issue papers. Development of these issue papers was part of a long-term effort to develop Agency-wide ecological risk assessment guidelines for EPA. These issue papers were written to help provide scientific and technical information that EPA scientists could use along with other materials to develop ecological risk assessment guidance. This workshop report includes recommendations for revising the draft issue papers, identification of cross-cutting issues and future research needs, and suggestions for possible structures for future EPA ecological risk assessment guidelines. Based on workshop discussion, the issue papers have been revised and are being published in a separate report [Ecological Risk Assessment Issue Papers]. Workshop recommendations and suggestions will be very useful to EPA as it begins the challenging task of developing ecological risk assessment guidelines. [Note: EPA published the Ecological Risk Assessment Guidelines in 1998.
