Puget Sound Naval Shipyard

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington provides a range of services for Navy submarines and surface ships, including repair, overhaul, conversion, and decommissioning of vessels. PSNS' ENVVEST project proposes the creation of a unified monitoring program and electronic database for the Sinclair Inlet. The benefits of this program would be measured by changes in water quality, sediment quality, biological health, and biodiversity within the inlet ecosystem in terms of the pounds of pollution prevented from various chemicals. The program would, with input from relevant stakeholders, create a relational database based on a generalized environmental data model. The database will identify areas of overlapping data collection, determine areas where more data should be collected, and assess the stressors affecting the health of the inlet. The Environmental Division at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard would be responsible for the daily monitoring and operation of the database and will submit periodic progress reports to DOD, EPA, the State, and other interested parties.
