Letter from Gordon Jackson to William Boyd

KAKE TRIBAL CORPORATION

July 20, 1995

William F. Boyd, Vice President
Corporate Counsel and Secretary
Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation
505 Front Avenue
P.O. Box I
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho 83814

Dear Mr. Boyd:

Kake Tribal Corporation has reviewed the Coeur Alaska, Inc. Kensington XL Pilot Project application dated July 14, 1995. Kake supports your application as it will provide a means for the Kensington Project to meet all necessary environmental standards in a cost effective and technically feasible manner.

As proposed in this application, effluent which has received enhanced treatment will be discharged into fresh water rather than the marine waters of Lynn Canal. This will allow the Kensington Project to meet environmentally safe standards while alleviating local concerns about discharges into the marine waters of an important fisheries area. Kake Tribal Corporation considers this to be the most important environmental benefit as we are the majority owner of Health Sea, Inc., a firm which purchases fish from the Lynn Canal fishermen.

Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation may forward this letter of support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Sincerely,

Gordon Jackson
President/CEO
