Letter from David Gardiner (EPA) to Senator John Breaux

UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY

WASHINGTON, D.C. 20460
OFFICE OF POLICY, PLANNING AND EVALUATION

Honorable John Breaux
United States Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510-1803

Dear Senator Breaux:

Thank you for your letter regarding the Project XL proposal submitted by your constituent, Mr. Darrell Evers, of Arcadian Fertilizer. As you may know, an important component of the XL program is determining the environmental impacts of individual projects. Accordingly, we have been working with Arcadian over the last few months to collect the data necessary to understand the environmental implications of their proposal. We believe we have now obtained a complete set of relevant data, and expect to reach a decision shortly on whether or not to move the project forward. I can assure you that we are in regular contact with Mr. Evers, and we share with him in as timely a manner as possible any information relevant to his company's proposal. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. Your staff may contact Nina Bonnelycke of the XL staff at 202-260-3344 ph, 202-401-6637 fax, or bonnelycke.nina@epamail.epa.gov. Once again, thank you for your interest in Project XL.

Sincerely,

David Gardiner
Assistant Administrator
