Dear Mr. Boyd:
My staff and I have reviewed the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency XL Pilot Project presentation prepared
by Coeur Alaska, Inc. dated July 14, 1995. This application, if accepted,
will provide a more flexible regulatory strategy for permitting the
Coeur Alaska Kensington Mine Project.
Klukwan, Inc. supports this application and we recommend that it be
selected by the Environmental Protection Agency as an XL Pilot Project.
This participation will provide environmental benefits to the Southeast
Alaska region.
The fresh water discharge of treated effluent proposed in this application
will allow the Kensington Project to meet environmentally safe standards
and alleviate local concerns about discharges into marine waters in
an important fisheries area. Further, this proposal will provide a means
to meet these environmental standards in a cost effective and technically
feasible manner.
Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation is authorized to pass this letter of
support for the XL Project application to the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency.
Sincerely,
Don Argetsinger
President
