Letter from Mr. and Mrs Tom Harrington to Robin Moran

May 11, 1997

Dear Ms. Moran:

We are writing to ask for your help. We live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with a direct view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park. It is truly beautiful here and we hope and strive to maintain that beauty.

This is where you can help. We are concerned with the precedent surrounding Merck's proposed new boilers at its Elkton Plant. WE are supportive of the intent in Merck's proposed change to natural gas boilers but, feel the proposed permit is flawed. We urge the EPA to:

  1. Put a term limit on the permit of 10 years.
  2. Do not give Merck veto authority over proposed changes to the permit.
  3. Require greater public involvement in the permit review process.

We sincerely hope you will help us with these concerns.

Sincerely,

Tom Harrington
P.M. Harrington
