The Status of OPs in the Pilot Public Participation Process

as of February 24, 1999

The following provides a status to date (2/24/99) of the OPs in every Phase of the pilot public participation process.

Process Phases Number of OPs in each Phase

Pre-Phase 1 ------ Preliminary risk assessments for 10 OPs are now being prepared for the public participation process.

Phase 1 ----------- Zero OPs are now in the registrant error-only comment period.

Phase 2 ----------- Registrant error correction comments on preliminary risk assessments are now being considered for 2 OPs.

* Phase 3 ------------ Preliminary risk assessments for 13 OPs are available for public comment. (Only the preliminary ecological effects risk assessment for azinphos methyl is in Phase 3)

* Phase 4 ------------ Public comments on preliminary risk assessments are now being considered for 15 OPs , and refined risk assessments are being developed. (Only the preliminary human health risk assessment for azinphos methyl is in Phase 4)

Other -------------- 8 OPs have been canceled or are in the process of being canceled.

* NOTE: Azinphos methyl is counted twice in the above summary - once in Phase 3 and once in Phase 4 - because the chemical's 2 preliminary risk assessments are in different phases of the process.

Attached are two presentations of this information in more detail:

TRAC Update Paper #5-A identifies the current Phase of each OP.
TRAC Update Paper #5-B gives the same information but presents it in an alphabetical listing of the OPs. This paper is identical in format to a handout distributed to the Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee during their January 1999 meeting. In addition, it is currently available on OPP's Internet website, and is kept current.
