Cancellation of Certain Agricultural Uses of Diazinon

Registration Amendments Completed

On January 9, 2007, EPA mailed letters to diazinon registrants amending their registrations by cancelling certain agricultural uses. These uses, outlined for cancellation as part of the mitigation in the September 2002 Diazinon Interim Reregistration Eligibility Decision (IRED), include the following:

For granular products

beets (red and table)
broccoli
Brussels sprouts
cabbage carrots
cauliflower, collards
endive (escarole)
ginseng
kale
melons
mustard
onions (bulb and green)
radishes
spinach
sugar beets
sweet corn
tomatoes

For liquid and wettable powder products

Chinese broccoli
Chinese cabbage
Chinese mustard
Chinese radish
corn
grapes
hops
mushroom houses
sugar beets
walnuts
seed treatment

No Comments Received on Use Deletions

The cancellation letters followed EPA's December 6, 2006 Federal Register Notice announcing receipt of requests by registrants to amend their diazinon registrations. All diazinon registrants waived the 180-day comment period in favor of a 30-day comment period. The Agency did not receive comments on any of these use deletions.

Few Remaining Agricultural Uses

All residential uses of diazinon were cancelled as of December 31, 2004. The only remaining uses are agricultural uses on a variety of fruit, vegetable, nut, and field crops, as well as use on non-lactating cattle as an ear-tag.
