Pesticide News Story: January 30-31, 2012, RCC Working Group on Crop Protection Products Stakeholder Meeting

The United States-Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council (RCC) will host an initial outreach event in Washington, DC, on January 30-31, 2012, to allow an opportunity for interested stakeholders to learn more about the Council and to provide input to federal regulators on work plans for the different areas of focus under the RCC. On January 31, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the Working Group on Crop Protection Products will convene its stakeholder session at the U.S. Department of Commerce, 1401 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20230. The RCC Draft Work Plan for Crop Protection Products, developed jointly by U.S. and Canadian regulatory authorities, is available for public comment at www.regulations.gov under EPA Docket No. EPA-HQ-OPP-2012-0030. The RCC was created on February 4, 2011, by President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Stephen Harper to increase regulatory transparency and coordination between the two countries. One of the initial areas of focus of the RCC is agricultural production, in particular further alignment of crop protection product approvals and establishment of tolerances and maximum residue limits (MRLs) for major and minor uses of pesticides in both countries. As pesticide activities under the RCC Action Plan are developed and implemented through the NAFTA Technical Working Group on Pesticides, both the U.S. EPA Office of Pesticide Programs and the Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency will continue to incorporate public feedback received through our websites, public meetings and other public engagements.
