4/14/06 Approval of New Active Ingredients

1. EPA issued a notice, published in the Federal Register of September 29, 2004 (69 FR 58164) (FRL-7679-2), which announced that AVA Chemical Ventures, L.L.C., of Portsmouth, NH, had submitted an application to register the pesticide product, Avachem Sorbitol Octanoate Manufacturing Use Product, an insecticide (EPA File Symbol 70950-U), containing Sorbitol octanoate; and another application to register the pesticide product, Avachem Sorbitol Octanoate 90.0%, insecticide (EPA File Symbol 70950-G), containing sorbitol octanoate. The products were not previously registered. Both applications were approved on January 17, 2006.
1/27/06 Tolerance Exemption Established - This regulation establishes an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of the biochemical sorbitol octanoate on all food commodities when applied/used in accordance with label directions. AVA Chemical Ventures, LLC submitted a petition to EPA requesting an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance. This regulation eliminates the need to establish a maximum permissible level for residues of sorbitol octanoate.

09/29/04 Application for New Active Ingredient Registration - EPA received applications as follows to register pesticide products containing active ingredients not included in any previously registered products:

1. File Symbol: 70950-G. Applicant: AVA Chemical Ventures, LLC of Portsmouth, NH. Product Name: Avachem Sorbitol Octanoate 90%. Insecticide. Active ingredient: Sorbitol Octanoate at 90%. Proposed classification/Use: None. An end use product to be used on all food commodities.

2. File Symbol: 70950-U. Applicant: AVA Chemical Ventures, LLC. Product Name: Avachem Sorbitol Octanoate Manufacturing Use Product. Insecticide. Active ingredient: Sorbitol Octanoate at 90.35%. Proposed classification/Use: None. For manufacturing use only.

09/29/04 Petition for Tolerance Establishment - EPA has received a pesticide petition (PP 2E6389) from AVA Chemical Ventures, LLC. of Portsmouth, NH proposing pursuant to section 408(d) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), 21 U.S.C. 346a(d), to amend 40 CFR part 180 by establishing tolerances for the residues of the insecticide sorbitol octanoate in or on all food agricultural commodities.

12/04/02 New Active Ingredient Approval - EPA issued a notice, published in the Federal Register of August 11, 1999, which announced that AVA Chemical Ventures, L.L.C., had submitted applications to register the pesticide products, Avachem Sucrose Octanoate Manufacturing Use Product [63%], (EPA File Symbol 70950-R), and Sucrose Octanoate [32.1%], a biological insecticide end-use product (EPA File Symbol 70950-E), containing sucrose octanoate (C8 fatty acid mono-, di- and triesters of sucrose octanoate and sucrose dioctanoate) ([alpha]-D-glucopyranoside, [beta]-D-fructofuranosyl, monooctanoate and dioctanoate), which has since been designated by the Agency as sucrose octanoate esters [([alpha]-D-glucopyranosyl, [beta]-D-fructofuranosyl- octanoate), mono-, di- and triesters of sucrose octanoate]. These products were not previously registered. The applications were approved on September 16, 2002, as Avachem Sucrose Octanoate Manufacturing Use Product (EPA Registration Number 70950-1) for formulating into biochemical insecticide/miticide end-use products and Avachem Sucrose Octanoate [40.0%] (EPA Registration Number 70950-2) for use as a biochemical insecticide/miticide end-use product.
9/25/02 Tolerance Exemption Established - This regulation establishes an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of certain Sucrose octanoate esters on all food commodities when applied/used in accordance with good agricultural practices. AVA Chemical Ventures, L.L.C. submitted a petition to EPA under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), as amended by the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) of 1996, requesting an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance. This regulation eliminates the need to establish a maximum permissible level for residues of sucrose octanoate esters.
6/28/02 Experimental Use Permits Granted - EPA has issued the following EUP: 64500-EUP-2. Issuance. AVA Chemical Ventures, L.L.C., 80 Rochester Avenue, Suite 214, Portsmouth, NH 03801. This EUP allows the use of 274 pounds of the biochemical pesticide Sucrose octanoate esters on 100 acres of non-bearing and/or post harvest citrus trees and grapes to evaluate the control of glassy-winged sharpshooter. The program is authorized only in the State of California. The EUP is effective from June 1, 2002 to June 1, 2003.

12/6/00 Issuance of Experimental Use Permit - 064500-EUP-1. Issuance. U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Pacific West Area (PWA), Department of Plant Pathology, University of California, of Davis, CA. This experimental use permit allows the use of 25 gallons of the biochemical pesticide Sucrose octanoate esters on 50 acres of grapevines to evaluate the control of glassy-winged sharpshooter during post harvest. The program is authorized only in the State of California. The experimental use permit is effective from September 15, 2000 to December 15, 2000. This is a non-crop destruct EUP.
