              NONROAD Emissions Inventory Model

NR-NOTE2.TXT August 11, 1998

This is one item in a series of notes being issued concerning the
draft EPA NONROAD model, which was released on June 18, 1998, and
distributed at the workshop in Chicago on June 25. Issues that
were known at the time of release are covered in a separate
Release Notes document, which was included on the distribution
CD.

1) NONROAD release and review dates -

The draft EPA NONROAD model was released on June 18, 1998.
Comments on the model and all of the technical reports that have
been issued so far are due by August 18, 1998. This does not
include the three technical reports that are still waiting to be
issued: Geographic Allocation, Refueling, and Deterioration.

2) Small bug in calculation of state and county emissions -

There was a problem with the calculation of emissions from the
first year of introduction of any new equipment tech type, e.g.,
the first year of a new emission standard. In many cases the
emissions from that tech type in that year would be calculated as
zero. The next update to be distributed will correct this
problem. The problem was discovered by a person attempting to
model lawn and garden equipment for a few counties in New Jersey.
It was noticed that comparing 1999 to 1996, commercial chain saw
emissions increased, while residential chain saw emissions
decreased, despite the faster fleet turnover of commercial
equipment to the newer controlled engines. This does not affect
US Total model runs.
