"NONROAD Reporting Utility, Version 2005c"

NONROAD2005 Reporting Utility Corrections & Enhancements

This describes problems discovered with the NONROAD2005 reporting
utility. Please see the description below concerning what issues
have been found, which of them have been corrected, and what
work-arounds exist for others. If you have downloaded NONROAD2005
from the web (www.epa.gov/otaq/nonrdmdl.htm) prior to this update,
you should replace your nonroad\data\reports\reports.mdb file with
the new one. Items #7 - #10 below are the changes included in
version 2005c of the reporting utility.

1. The version of the reporting utility (reports.mdb file) that was
provided with the release of NONROAD2005 on December 7, 2005, was
found to have a problem with winter season (typical day) emission
reports for leap years (e.g., 2004, 2008). One obvious indication
that you are experiencing the problem is that when you attempt to
run one of the emission reports, you get an error message saying:
"Data type mismatch in criteria expression." In some cases the
report will run after you click [OK], but even then the report will
not provide correct values for at least some of the equipment (such
as snowblowers & snowmobiles). This problem has now been addressed
by removing code related to leap years in the data import module of
the reporting utility.

Assuming you did a default installation, your reports.mdb file
would be in: c:\nonroad\reports\reports.mdb

After you unZip and put the new reports.mdb file there, you
should be able to open it as usual (either from the NONROAD GUI
or by double-clicking on the file itself. The first thing you
will need to do then is select Data: Re-Attach Tables. Any winter
runs you had imported using the old reporting utility will need
to be re-imported (you may want to delete the old runs first,
using Data: Remove Run).

This was fixed in version 2005a of the reporting utility.

2. [This has now been fixed -- see item #8 below.]
The reporting utility Export to Excel function does not work
properly for the six Emission Factors reports (e.g., Grams per
Operating Hour by SCC, Grams per Day by Hp and SCC, etc.).
Although the correct values display on the report screen and
report printout, the Export to Excel menu selection yields an
Excel file containing inventory tons values rather than the
expected emission factor values. This problem is not yet fixed.
Until this can be fixed, the only known work-around is to use
only the report display or printout, and do not use the Export
to Excel function for the Emission Factors reports (but it does
work properly for the standard reports, such as Emission Totals
by County).

3. Population and Fuel consumption reports always produced two
decimal places, even though it appears that you should be able to
choose the desired number of decimal places. This has been
modified slightly to output equipment popuplation & fuel consumption
with 0, 1, or 2, decimal places depending on aggregation level
(it still does not matter what number you choose in the report
selection form).

4. We have discovered that after you delete old model runs from
the reporting utility (using Data: Remove Run), the database
(nrdata.mdb) does NOT automatically compact itself, even though
the on-screen message says that it will automatically compact.
This is not a problem, except that the file size of nrdata.mdb
may start taking up more disk space than you would like it to if
you import and remove a large number of model runs. The new
reporting utility does not fix this problem, but there are two
possible work-arounds you can use at this time:

(4a) If you have your own full version of Access 2000 or later,
then you can open (double click on) nrdata.mdb, and then select
from the main Access menu, Tools: Database Utilities:
Compact and Repair Database...
Then exit Access, and use the reporting utility as usual.

(4b) Regardless of whether you are using your own full version
of Access or the runtime version provided with NONROAD2005, you
can always rename your existing nrdata.mdb to something else
and/or move it somewhere else for archival purposes, and start
fresh with the nrdata.mdb from the reporting utility
distribution files.

5. It was discovered that users of Microsoft Access 2003 were unable
to run the reporting utility installation software in the 12/7/05
release package. The files now available on the web site address
this problem. The MS-Access runtime installation package
(access-inst.zip) is now totally separate from the reporting utility
files. So anyone with your own installation of Access 2002 or 2003,
or anyone who already successfully installed the Access runtime from
the 12/7/05 release can ignore this new Access installation file.

6. It was found that the reporting utility would not import more
than 32,767 records in one OUT file. This could be a problem if
doing a county level run for an entire state, since there is one
record for each Hp range of each SCC for each county. This limit has
now been removed in version 2005b of the reporting utility.

Corrections & Enhancements in version 2005c:

7. Changed the NIF export "HC" label to "VOC" since in NONROAD2005
it is VOC. In NONROAD2004 and earlier versions of the model, the NIF
export was HC instead of VOC.

8. [See problem description in item #2 above.]
Fixed the Export to Excel function for all the Emission Factor
reports (e.g., from tons per year to grams per hp-hr).
Also the export format has been changed from Excel3 to Excel5, which
includes the name of the report as the name of the sheet (tab) within
the Excel file.

9. Add CNG fuel volume explanation to CNG fuel totals line of both
of the Population & Fuel Consumption reports. CNG is a gaseous fuel,
so the volumes shown are expressed in gallons of gaseous fuel at
standard temperature & pressure. These volumes are much greater than
the liquid volumes used for the other fuels (gasoline, diesel, and
LPG).

10. Add reporting utility version number to page footer of all reports.

If you have any doubt about which reporting utility you have open,
the updated one says "NONROAD Reporting Utility, Version 2005c"
at the top of the window, instead of 2005, 2005a, or 2005b.
