PHRE Online Tutorial
An independent Federal advisory committee that operates in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), 5 U.S.C. App.2 § 9, and provides advice, information, and recommendations on scientific and ethical aspects of human subjects research (HSR) referred to it by the Agency.
Established by rule at Subpart P of the expanded version of EPA Regulation 40 CFR 26 (Protection of Human Subjects) promulgated by the Agency in 2006.
Chartered by Congress on February 21, 2006 and subsequently rechartered effective March 4, 2010.
Is required by 40 CFR 26 to review and comment on all proposed and completed third-party research involving the intentional exposure of human subjects that is submitted to the Agency under the pesticide laws.
When requested by the Agency, may also:
- Review and comment on other HSR, including HSR conducted or supported by EPA.
- Provide advice on how to strengthen EPA’s programs for the protection of human subjects of research.
