Pesticide News Story: EPA Invites Nominations for Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee

EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs is inviting nominations of qualified candidates to be considered for appointment to the Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee (PPDC) for the next two-year term. Nominations must be e-mailed or postmarked no later than April 20, 2010, to Margie Fehrenbach (fehrenbach.margie@epa.gov), Office of Pesticide Programs (7501P), Environmental Protection Agency, 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW., Washington, DC 20460–0001; telephone number: (703) 308–4775; fax number: (703) 308–4776. Vacancies are expected to be filled by late spring 2010.
EPA values and welcomes diversity. In an effort to maintain balance and obtain nominations of diverse candidates, EPA encourages applications from all racial and ethnic groups. EPA seeks broad geographic representation from candidates possessing relevant experience and expertise from the following sectors:
- Environmental/public interest and consumer groups;
- Farm worker organizations;
- Pesticide user, grower, and commodity groups;
- Pesticide industry and trade associations;
- Federal, state, local, and tribal governments;
- Academia;
- Public health organizations;
- Individuals who are concerned about urban pest management issues; and The general public.
EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs is entrusted with the responsibility to help ensure the safety of the American food supply, the education and protection from unreasonable risk of those who apply or are exposed to pesticides occupationally or through use of products, and general protection of the environment and special ecosystems from potential risks posed by pesticides.
The PPDC was established in 1995 under the Federal Advisory Committee Act and serves to provide advice and recommendations to to the EPA Administrator on issues associated with pesticide regulatory development and reform initiatives, evolving public policy and program implementation issues, and science issues associated with evaluating and reducing risks from use of pesticides.
