Pesticide News Story: PPDC PRIA Process Improvement Workgroup to Meet September 27, 2007
For Release: September 18, 2007
On Thursday, September 27, 2007, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs will host the ninth meeting of the Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee (PPDC) PRIA Process Improvement Workgroup. The objective of this workgroup is to identify and evaluate potential reforms to the pesticide registration process. The goal is to reduce the amount of time the Agency takes to process an application under the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act of 2003 (PRIA). The Agency will not compromise the scientific quality of its assessments as a means of reducing decision time review periods. The meeting will be in the lobby level Conference Center of the Potomac Yards building, located at 2777 S. Crystal Drive (One Potomac Yard), Arlington, Virginia.
An agenda is available on the PRIA Process Improvement Workgroup Web site.
Agenda topics for the September 27 meeting include:
- Advancements in Information Technology and Management: The results of a pilot in which volunteer applicants submitted their applications on electronic media in XML form and a schedule for full implementation of electronic submission will be discussed. Progress will also be reported on modifications to EPA’s web site and tracking systems to improve how PRIA fees are paid.
- E-label Review: The Agency will report progress in implementing an electronic label review process. Its objective is to increase the accuracy and consistency of label reviews.
- Labeling Committee: The status of the Committee’s current projects and its questions/answer web site will be reported.
- Inerts: Updates to the inerts web site including the inerts list and efforts to “modernize” the site and the status of the surfactants tolerance exemptions are topics of interest.
- Recent Advancements in Environmental Exposure and Ecological/Endangered Species Risk Assessment Models and GIS: The workgroup will be updated on the EPA’s presentation of November 2, 2006 on its spatial aquatic model and other GIS efforts along with improvements in the models used in drinking water exposure and ecological/endangered species assessments.
PPDC workgroup meetings are open to the public. Public comment is welcome at the conclusion of the meeting. Teleconferencing facilities are available, and arrangements can be made with Elizabeth Leovey (leovey.elizabeth@epa.gov), 703-305-7328.
