Pesticide News Story: EPA's FY 2006 Annual Report on Implementing the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) Available on Web Site

EPA's annual report for fiscal year 2006 on pesticide registration actions and decisions, as required by Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) is available at https://www.epa.gov/pesticides/regulating/fees/pria_annual_report_2006.htm. On January 23, 2004, the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act was amended to initiate a system which provides for EPA to collect fees for certain pesticide registration applications and to make a decisions on those applications within specified time frames. This year’s report details how the Agency met its deadlines, documents the registration services fees collected and the use of the funds, and describes current and planned process improvements. Some highlights include:
- Completion of 99.9 percent of the 1,347 applications on or before their due dates. The report includes average decision times for each PRIA fee category or type of application. As of end of the fiscal year, September 30, 2006, 1,256 applications subject to PRIA were pending with the Agency.
- 11 percent of completed applications required that the due date be extended due to missing or deficient data or information, which is an increase over the 6% experienced in the previous fiscal year. The Office of Pesticide Programs conducted an in-depth analysis of the cause of these extensions. The report describes the Agency's findings and steps taken to address some of the issues.
- Under PRIA, funds are set aside for worker protection and the report provides a comprehensive discussion of the Agency's accomplishments with these funds
