Pesticide News Story: EPA Issues Guidance for Disposal Instructions on Non-Antimicrobial Residential/Household Use Pesticide Product Labels

For Release: March 23, 2007

EPA has issued a Pesticide Registration Notice (PRN) providing guidance for the development of disposal instructions for non-antimicrobial, residential/household use pesticide product labels. The Agency has determined that differences between existing label disposal instructions and local disposal guidance may, understandably, confuse consumers, complicate local educational efforts, and interfere with state and local responsibilities. Prior to this notice, disposal instructions did not promote EPA’s pollution prevention and waste management goals of source reduction, reuse, and recycling. Registrants may revise labels according to guidance in this notice by notification or they may make the changes by non-notification, according to PR Notice 98-10. The Agency expects that registrants of existing products will begin to revise their labels accordingly, specifically regarding the removal of the reference to 1-800-CLEANUP.

The PRN, (PR Notice 2007-1), can be found in its entirety at https://www.epa.gov/PR_Notices/pr2007-1.htm, and the PRN’s notice of availability can be found at the Federal Register Web site.
