Pesticide News Story: Pesticide Registration Improvement Issues to be Discussed at November 2 Meeting

As announced in the Federal Register on October 13, 2006, the Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee’s (PPDC’s) Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA) Process Improvement Workgroup will meet on November 2, 2006, to develop advice and recommendations related to improving EPA’s pesticide registration process. The meeting agenda includes:
- Updating EPA’s Label Review Manual and making it more user friendly
- Discussing how the Agency is addressing product chemistry issues
- Information to improve applications that include product chemistry data
- Initiatives to improve processes for assessing inerts
- Increasing the number of complete applications received by the Pesticide Program by updating the Blue Book or General Information on Applying for Registration of Pesticides in the United States
- EPA’s Spatial Aquatic Model-- incorporating a spatial element into the characterization of risk, with current examples of how spatially explicit risk assessments have been conducted as well as discussing plans for the development of new tools for systematically conducting spatial assessments
- E-label review process and what applicants may do to take advantage of this improvement
- Electronic submission/jackets/fee payments to increase the efficiency of processing applications
As always, the Pesticide Program will welcome public comments at the conclusion of these meetings.
