Example Design: Sampling Locations So. California Bight

Map of Sampling Sites

This example illustrates a variable density survey with a spatially balanced stratified random design that accommodated several program objectives including: 1) identification of potential sampling sites throughout the area of interest (Target Population), 2) spatially balanced sample sites drawn from those potential sites, 3) increased density of sites with areas of special interest (sub-populations), and 4) three levels of data collection (Nested Subsamples) at designated sample sites.
