EPA REPORT - DRAFT
January 5, 2006

This is a bibliometric analysis of a collection of 388 EPA-EDC papers. For this report, 283 papers were reviewed. The data breakdown from the 388 citations provided by EPA is as follows:

  • 283 successful citation results
  • 67 records omitted for the following conditions:
    • 12 duplicates
    • 20 book records. Thomson indexes primarily journals.
    • 4 journals not indexed by Thomson
    • 21 records where there was no article for the author, journal, or title listed by EPA
    • 10 records with a status of “In press” or “In review”. No published citation found

The remaining citations will be double checked for inclusion in the final report.

The analysis was completed using the Thomson Essential Science Indicators (ESI) and Journal Citation Report (JCR) as benchmarks. The following is a summary of the EPA-EDC papers compared to ESI and JCR.

Average Citation Rate by Year and Field

The average citation rate is the average, by field and by year, of all EPA and ESI papers. There were a total of 53 field and year combinations and, in 32 instances, EPA papers exceeded the ESI average citations. EPA published over the ESI average citation rates in 7 fields.

The table below indicates the number of EPA papers that exceeded ESI average for each field and year, a total of 212 papers.
