Georges Belfort

Georges Belfort is Professor and Director of Bioseparations Group, Howard P. Isermann Department of Chemical Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has recieved the 1995 American Chemistry Society's Award in Separations Science & Technology sponsored by Rohm and Haas Co. He is the Past President of North American Membrane Society (1995-1996).

Dr. Belfort's research group has focused their recent efforts in four directions: development of a complete new line of membrane modules for liquid separations, the development of new methods to modify the surfaces of polymeric films and membranes, the use of recombinant techniques to effect better separations of proteins, and fundamental measurements of protein-polymer and polysaccharide-polymer interactions to better understand membrane and marine fouling.
