N. Gunter Guy, Jr., Commissioner, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources

Mr. Guy is currently serving as Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. An executive and administrative department of the State of Alabama, created by statute, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, under the leadership of the Commissioner, enables the Governor to exercise control over the state's natural resources and state parks. The Commissioner, appointed by the Governor as a member of the his cabinet, advises the Governor and Legislature on management of freshwater fish, wildlife, marine resources, waterway safety, state lands, state parks, and other natural resources.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Guy had been engaged in the private practice of law since 1982. Most recently, Mr. Guy was employed with the law firm of Ball, Ball, Matthews and Novak, PA in Montgomery, Alabama, where he was engaged in a governmental entity and general civil and insurance defense litigation practice. From 1983 to 1999, Mr. Guy also served as the City Attorney for the City of Montgomery, Alabama.

Mr. Guy holds a BS degree from Auburn University. He also holds a JD degree from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Guy is a member of the Alabama State Bar and is admitted to practice law in the United State Supreme Court, The United States Courts of Appeals for the Eleven Circuit and all United States District courts in Alabama.

Mr. Guy is a native of Pintlala, Alabama and has been married 23 years to the former Patsy Lynn Wright of Montgomery, Alabama and has two children Catherine age 20; and Ashley age 16.
