Gulf Guardian Award Winners 2007
Youth/Education Category - 1st Place
In an effort to establish a state-wide environmental education initiative to increase science achievement, provide teacher professional development, increase stewardship of public lands and increase participation of underserved and underrepresented populations in environmental science, the FL DEP’s Office of Environmental Education developed the Learning in Florida’s Environment (LIFE) program in 2004. The LIFE program takes students to state parks and engages them in hands-on and inquiry-based science investigations emphasizing the essential science skills of observation and inference. The program has three sites in Gulf coast counties (Franklin; Wakulla; Pinellas) and one in the Suwannee River watershed (Columbia).
