Mr. Richard Smith is well known as the most creative educators in the Tampa area and the state of Florida. Mr. Smith has received many state and local awards for his efforts at making his students a part of the environmental solution by creating programs where the students are given the opportunity to make positive impacts on our shared ecosystems and habitats. Mr. Smith’s students are featured in the newly adopted state science textbook for their efforts, and Mr. Smith was selected on the top 25 educators in the Southeastern United States by RBC Centura Bank for 2006. Mr. Smith created and developed both the REEF RAKERS and BAY BUDDIES programs, but focuses those program’s successes so the students will receive the credit. He is the driving force behind the students’ love of the environment and their desire to take part in environmental stewardship activities.
