Parishes Against Coastal Erosion is a coalition of Louisiana parish presidents, mayors and other local elected officials created in late 2003 to improve the existing dialogue between the parishes, build citizen awareness of the issues associated with coastal wetland loss, and develop local government strategies and actions. Especially after the 2005 hurricane season, this alliance of parishes has become an essential tool in identifying regional coastal protection needs and in providing this information to state and national government agencies for program development (Coastal Impact Assistance Program, Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority) PACE is truly innovative in the unprecedented uniting of all of Louisiana’s coastal parishes and other coastal states that now speak to local constituents and Congress in one voice and has made a favorable impression by putting a local face on Louisiana’s coastal erosion crisis.
