Project Name: DeLisle Community Wastewater Collection System
Location: Pass Christian, Mississippi
Category: Business

The West Harrison Water and Sewer District was established on October 2, 1996 to provide sewer service to one of the largest areas in Harrison County not served by a central sewer system. A Wastewater Facilities Plan was prepared in 1997. This plan was contingent upon the participation of a proposed private development that did not come to fruition. Through the work of the WHWSD, local community leaders and DuPont, funding was made available to pursue this project. A sewage collection and treatment system was designed and constructed on Lobouy Road in west Harrison County. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 17, 2004 with the facility accepting material for treatment in December of 2005. This project is one of proven technology that includes grinder pump stations in the community, forced mains, an influent pump station, digesters, clarifiers and ultraviolet disinfection. This project was initiated to provide sewer service to one of the areas in Harrison County not served by a central sewer system, which will reduce the fecal coliform load on the Bay of St. Louis, an impaired water body.
