www.GulfBase.org is a project initiated in 2002 by the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies, with the objective of regrouping, synthesizing and making freely available environmental research information about the Gulf of Mexico. This is an ongoing long-term project based at Texas A & M University-Corpus Christ, providing information related to the entire Gulf of Mexico. This includes the United State, Mexico and Cuba. GulfBase includes sections describing exploration history and general facts about the Gulf, environmental issues affecting the Gulf and data about its bays, estuaries, lagoons, reefs, banks and islands. GulfBase.org was created to provide a sustained web site that unifies environmental information about the entire Gulf of Mexico, including the US, Mexico and Cuba. It is a dynamic site that is reviewed and updated almost daily by its staff, consisting of an editor in chief, a managing and scientific editor for the USA, and a scientific editor for Mexico and Cuba. It provides reliable and up-to-date information about the Gulf of Mexico to scientist, environmental managers, policy makers and the general public.
