The Coastal Kids Quiz competition provides an outlet for promoting dialogue
between social, economic and environmental interests while consolidating
Alabama’s coastal educational resources. Children in Alabama’s
coastal area have been introduced to conservation principles but have
not been given the opportunity to express their knowledge and understanding
outside the classroom. The Coastal Kids Quiz is an innovative way to encourage
learning and conservation by challenging teachers and students to prepare
for a conservation scholarship competition.
The Coastal Kids Quiz involves the local schools in Mobile and Baldwin
Counties, the students, their siblings (much study is conducted at home),
their parents and teachers. The classes/teams study from September to
April when the Quiz is held. The volunteers are also involved in the hands
on training process. In essence, the coastal community becomes involved.
The Coastal Kids Quiz is an educational conservation scholarship competition
for 5th grade students designed to emphasize, introduce and test knowledge
in coastal resources, conservation and the environment.
