Project Marine Discovery: On The Road brings coastal animals and
activities to schools to give kindergarten through 12th-grade
students "up-close and personal" experience with the
marine environment. During interactive sessions, students will
learn about endangered and threatened sea turtles, sharks of our
coastal waters, and the natural history and adaptations of North
American birds and snakes. Past and current sponsors are The University
of Southern Mississippi Institute of Marine Sciences; International
Paper-Moss Point Mill; Mississippi Department of Marine Resources;
Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium; Chevron, Inc.; and Mississippi
Department of Environmental Quality.
The second place Gulf Guardian Award winner in the Youth/Education category went to the J.L. Scott Marine Education Center & Aquarium in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, for their Project Marine Discovery On the Road. Barry Royals again presented the award. Accepting the award for the Aquarium are from left to right, Sharon H. Walker, Luther Graves, and Rebecca Espey.
