SECOND PLACE CIVIC/NONPOFIT ORGANIZATION

Project #: PH 2000-02
Company: Reef Relief, Key West FL
Project Name: Reef Relief's Coral Reef Conservation Program
Category: Civic/Nonprofit Organization
Project Type: Public Health

Reef Relief is a grassroots membership organization dedicated to protect coral reefs. The reefs of the Florida Keys are imperiled due in great part to poor water quality. Since 1987, the Coral Reef Conservation Program seeks to improve water quality in the Florida Keys. This program is made possible by Executive Director DeeVon Quirolo, Director of Marine Projects Craig Quirolo, Educational Coordinator Joel Biddle, Project Coordinator Michael Blades, the Reef Relief Scientific Advisory Board and numerous volunteers. Last year, we achieved two great successes: a comprehensive, funded, advanced wastewater treatment program for Key West, and official designation of Key West waters as a No Discharge Zone for boater sewage.
