Webinar on EPAs Proposed Combustion Rules and Solid Waste
Webinar
Date: Held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010
Presentations: Presentation Materials (PDF) (67 pp, 3.0MB, about PDF) from the webinar
EPA held a webinar on June 9, 2010 intended for state, local and tribal air quality agencies, environmental justice community organizations, environmental/health organizations, industry, and others.
Attendees learned more about new rules proposed by EPA, which will reduce emissions from boilers, process heaters, and solid waste incinerators. Boilers and process heaters are sources of air pollution and are in virtually every community. There are also 172 commercial or industrial solid waste incinerators in the US that may be affected by the proposed incinerator rule. Note: Municipal solid waste incinerators are covered under other EPA rules and will not be covered in this webinar.
EPA presented information on whether non-hazardous secondary materials are or are not solid waste. This proposed rule addresses which non-hazardous secondary materials would be considered solid waste and which would be considered fuel. This definition identifies the types of materials that may be burned as a fuel in a boiler or whether they must be burned in a solid waste incinerator.

The format for the webinar was an online presentation (PDF) (67 pp, 3.0MB, about PDF) by EPA using maps and power point slides.
