Seattle, Washington - Administrator Stephen Johnson of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has appointed L. Michael Bogert as the new Region 10 Administrator, who will be responsible for managing Agency programs in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Bogert to serve as Region 10 Administrator," said EPA Administrator, Stephen Johnson. "Michael has an extensive background in public service."

Bogert has served as the principal legal advisor to Governor Dirk Kempthorne of Idaho for over five years. In that capacity, he advised the executive office and agencies on legal implications of state policy and legislation, with an emphasis on environmental issues and matters within the jurisdiction of the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and the Idaho Department of Water resources. He was most recently in private law practice with the Boise Office of Perkins Coie, LLP.

"I am looking forward to this exciting and challenging opportunity to advance the Agency's mission of protecting human health and the environment for the benefit of all the citizens of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska," said Bogert.

Bogert will assume the position in which Ron Kreizenbeck, a 30-plus year veteran of the Agency, has been serving as Acting Regional Administrator since July 21, 2004.

"I would also like to thank Ron Kreizenbeck, who for the past year has ably fulfilled the duties of Acting Regional Administrator," said Johnson. "As a 30-plus year veteran of the Agency, his expertise and dedication has allowed us to carry on our mission in Region 10 without missing a step." "I appreciate Ron's commitment to EPA and look forward to our continued work together as he resumes his role as Deputy Regional Administrator."

Bogert attended George Washington University, L.L.M. Program, Environmental Law, 1994-1995, University of Idaho College of Law, J.D., 1985, and the University of Santa Clara, B.A. (History), 1979.
