PUBLIC COMMENT ASKED ON INDOOR
RESIDENTIAL INSECTICIDE PRODUCT LABELING

On March 29, EPA published a Federal Register Notice of Availability -- with a 60-day public comment period -- of its draft Pesticide Registration Notice (PRN) on indoor residential insecticide product labeling The PRN is a proposed guidance document designed to clarify residential insecticide product labeling, as part of the Agency’s continuing effort to reduce unnecessary exposures to humans and pets from insecticides used in the home. The guidance is also aimed at improving the safety of pesticide use, and helping to provide the Agency with additional methods of estimating residential exposure to pesticides as mandated by the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996. Specific label amendments proposed include issues such as whether people or pets can be present when the pesticide product is used and when they may re-enter the treated area; what the amount of pesticide applied can be; what time intervals should apply before the product may be reapplied; and proper ventilation when using the product. This PR Notice is not a substitution for EPA standard operating procedures that companies should use when performing residential risk assessments on pesticide products. The Federal Register notice is available at: http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/aces140.html or call Mark Dow at 703-305-5533 or Tracy Keigwin at 703-305-6605.
