PHILADELPHIA– The mid-Atlantic regional office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will conduct a listening session in Philadelphia to hear interested parties’ views on the “Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act,” which President Bush signed into law on January 11, 2002. This legislation includes important changes in Superfund liability rules affecting purchasers of contaminated property, and parties responsible for small amounts of the hazardous substances contaminating Superfund sites.

The “Liability Changes Listening Session” will be held on July 25, 2002 from 1:00-3:00 p.m., at EPA Region III, 1650 Arch St., 4th Floor Conference Center, in Philadelphia. EPA regional and headquarters officials will be on hand to hear comments, concerns and suggestions on the implementation of this law, including provisions relating to prospective purchasers, innocent landowners, and neighboring property owners. The comments from the meeting will be summarized and shared with the EPA personnel who are preparing guidance and directives that relate to this new legislation.
