EPA Region 2 Gets New Regional Administrator; Official Swearing-In Today for Jane M. Kenny

(#01142) New York, N.Y. -- It's official! Jane M. Kenny is the new Regional Administrator of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2. Kenny takes the EPA leadership position overseeing all federal environmental programs for a region covering New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She was sworn-in as Regional Administrator at a ceremony held today in EPA's Manhattan office with EPA employees attending. "I am looking forward to working with the many professional and talented people of EPA Region 2 who do such a tremendous job of protecting the environment and serving the people of this very diverse region, said Regional Administrator Jane M. Kenny." Jane Kenny comes to EPA from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, where she served as Commissioner, working to address critical environmental and community redevelopment issues in the state, including brownfields redevelopment, urban revitalization and sustainability. As Commissioner, Ms. Kenny also served as chair of the state's Brownfields Task Force and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, which under Kenny's leadership, has taken the unprecedented action of preserving more than 1,700 acres of wetlands and uplands as open space. As Regional Administrator, Jane Kenny has overall responsibility for planning, programming, implementation and direction of EPA activities in Region 2. The Regional Administrator serves as the Administrator's principal representative in the region and is responsible for accomplishing the Agency's national objectives. EPA Region 2 currently has 945 employees on-board. EPA staff are stationed at the main regional office at 290 Broadway in lower Manhattan; in an Edison, New Jersey facility, which houses the region's science laboratory; at the region's Caribbean Environmental Protection Division office in San Juan, Puerto Rico; in the Stamford, Connecticut Long Island Sound office and in field offices on St. Thomas and in Niagara Falls, New York.
