Saturday: EPA Assistant Administrator Mathy Stanislaus to Visit Savannah, Celebrate Earth Day

(ATLANTA – April 22, 2010) On Saturday, Assistant Administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response, Mathy Stanislaus, is scheduled to speak at a Recognition Breakfast sponsored by the Harambee House, Inc./Citizens for Environmental Justice (HH/CFEJ). The Recognition Breakfast – open to reporters, policy-makers, health officials, environmentalists, community residents and representatives from federal agencies – is a kick-off to the Hudson Hill Earth Day/Health Fair Celebration and the Woodville Earth Day Celebration planned by Hudson Hill and Woodville residents who lead the CARE (Community Action for a Renewed Environment) teams. CARE is competitive grant program administered by the EPA.

Stanislaus is responsible for the oversight of hazardous and solid waste management; hazardous waste cleanup and redevelopment, including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act corrective action sites, Superfund sites and federal facilities; Brownfields; oil spill prevention and response; chemical accident prevention and preparedness; underground storage tanks; and emergency response. Stanislaus will help HH/CFEJ celebrate its partnership with EPA and help recognize those individuals whose efforts help to make HH/CFEJ’s Worker Education and Job Training Program and the CARE project a great success.
