Comment Period Extended for Public Review of McCoy Field Documents - Comments accepted through July 29

(New Bedford) - The public comment period for review of documents related to EPA's review of a plan by the City of New Bedford to address PCB contamination at the McCoy Field site, in New Bedford, has been extended for two weeks. Interested members of the public now have until July 29 to submit comments to EPA.

In June, EPA completed review of New Bedford's plan to address contamination of McCoy Field with PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). Based on the specific technical components of the plan to clean the site, EPA issued a draft approval of the City's plan on June 14, 2005 and EPA held a public informational meeting on June 22, 2005.

EPA's evaluation of the City's plan is focused on ensuring an effective clean up remedy for the site is in place that will be protective of human health.

Documents related to the City's plan and EPA's review and proposed approval are posted on EPA's website, and are available at the New Bedford Free Public Library (613 Pleasant St., New Bedford). Written comments on EPA's draft approval of the McCoy Field PCB clean up strategy, specifically regarding the plan's technical merits and other information relevant to the site's long-term monitoring and maintenance, must be postmarked by July 29 to be considered.
