POLLUTION PREVENTION GRANTS AWARDED THROUGHOUT U.S.

During 2001, EPA's Environmental Justice Through Pollution Prevention grant program has awarded nearly $725,000 to support pollution prevention efforts in low-income and minority communities. Fourteen grant projects were competitively chosen and are being awarded to the following groups: Connecticut Coalition for Environmental Justice; Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Occupational Training And Education Consortium; Environmental Justice and Equity with Community-Based Teamwork (EJECT-NJ Inc.); Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project; The North Carolina Farmworkers' Project; Safer Pest Control Project; Oneida Nation in Wisconsin, Environmental Quality Department; City of Laredo, Texas, Environmental Services Department; City of Little Rock, Ark.; Dallas County Community College District; Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma; Northeast Metro Pollution Prevention Alliance; Institute for Research and Technical Assistance; and Earth Energy Systems Ltd. The funds will help small businesses prevent pollution in communities, curtail toxic emissions from industrial facilities, use agricultural pollution prevention techniques and improve Native American tribal environments, among other approaches.
