EPA Announces Availability of Administrative Record for Stallworth Timber Site in Beatrice, Ala.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency announced today that the Administrative Record for the Stallworth Timber Removal Site in Beatrice, Monroe County, Alabama is available for public review.

The Administrative Record file includes documents that form the basis for selection of the removal action. Documents in the record may include, but are not limited to, preliminary assessment and inspection reports, test results, and the Action Memorandum. All interested persons are encouraged to review the documents and provide comments.

EPA will accept comments regarding the Administrative Record during the public comment period which begins on February 4, 2004 and ends on March 4, 2004. Comments should be addressed to Gerald Foree, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, U.S. EPA Region 4, ERRB, 11th Floor, 61 Forsyth Street, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30303-3104. At the end of the 30-day comment period, a written response to all pertinent comments will be prepared in a responsiveness summary and placed in the file.

The Stallworth Timber Site was a wood treating operation that treated power poles using creosote, pentachlorophenol, and chromated copper arsenate (CCA). The facility is 15 acres in size and is located within the city limits at 27 Bryan Street, Beatrice, Alabama. The property is bordered by several residential and commercial properties.
