FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., Sept. 7, 2010) - News media representatives and the public are invited to attend a Sept. 10 event in Lincoln, Neb., to highlight sewer improvements at Stevens Creek Basin. Approximately 85 percent of a sanitary sewer pipeline project has been completed near 84^th Street and Havelock Avenue.

The $5 million sewer improvement project was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). As part of the Recovery Act, Nebraska received more than $39 million for drinking water and wastewater projects.

WHAT: $5 million sewer improvement project

WHERE: The construction site is one-half mile east of the intersection of 84^th Street and Havelock Avenue, Lincoln, Neb., (In case of rain, the event will be held at the Lancaster Event Center, Lancaster Room in the business center, 4100 North 84^th Street, Lincoln, Neb.)

WHEN: 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 (A tour of the construction site for the news media will take place at 2:15 p.m.)

The funds provided by ARRA go to the state's CWSRF program. The program provides low-interest loans for water quality protection projects for wastewater treatment, non-point source pollution control, and watershed and estuary management.

An unprecedented $6 billion has been awarded to fund water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the country under the Recovery Act in the form of low-interest loans, principal forgiveness and grants. At least 20 percent of the funds provided under the Recovery Act are to be used for green infrastructure, water and energy efficiency improvements and other environmentally innovative projects.

President Obama signed the Recovery Act on February 17, 2009 and has directed that the Recovery Act be implemented with unprecedented transparency and accountability. To that end, the American people can see how every dollar is being invested at www.recovery.gov.
