PA NAT'L AUTOMOTIVE CENTER OPENS

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 1996

NATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE COMPLIANCE ASSISTANCE CENTER OPENS EPA is announcing the opening of the National Automotive Compliance Assistance Center on June 3. The center is one of four national assistance centers developed by the Agency as part of its Common Sense Initiative and the Clinton Administration's March 16, 1995, Reinvention of Regulation. The Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR), the awardee of a two-year Environmental Technology Initiative Grant from EPA, developed the compliance assistance center, named CCAR-GreenLink. CCAR-GreenLink will provide a single source of information and assistance to professionals and small businesses in the automotive service industry about their compliance obligations under all environmental statutes applicable to their operations. The center also will provide information on innovative technologies, for waste minimization, recycling and product substitution covering areas such as used oil management, air conditioning repair and emergency spill procedures. It also can assist the nation's technical schools and community colleges to incorporate environmental compliance information into their automotive classes, as well as, support industry trade associations and state small business ombudsmen and technical advisory staffs. The Automotive Center will be open to the public, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A user can access the center by calling the toll-free telephone number, 1-888-GRN-LINK (476-5465), to receive facsimile or mailed information or to speak with a customer representative. If the user has access to the Internet, he or she can contact the center at the CCAR-GreenLink web site address, http://www.ccar-greenlink.org. CCAR affiliates include individuals and associations of automobile manufacturers and dealers, tool and equipment manufacturers, engine rebuilders, aftermarket dealers and distributors, automotive service providers, technicians, fuel manufacturers and suppliers, consumer organizations as well as vocational education groups.
