(ATLANTA – August 29, 2011) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host a public meeting regarding the Continental Cleaners site on Tuesday, August 30th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Belafonte TACOLCY Center located in the Liberty City neighborhood at 6161 NW 9th Ave., Miami, Dade County, FL 33127.

The public meeting is an opportunity for EPA to share the May sampling results with the community and for the community members to ask any questions about the site activities.

The Continental Cleaners Site, which is across the street from the center, is at 798 NW 62nd Street. A laundry and dry cleaning business operated at the Site from about 1966 until 2005. A chemical called PCE, also known as perchloroethylene, was used as the dry cleaning solvent. Site operations or disposal practices resulted in the release of PCE to the soil and groundwater. The facility is currently used for laundry only; no dry cleaning is being done on site.

Community members interested in obtaining additional information are encouraged to contact Kyle Bryant at 1-800-435-9233 or Bryant.kyle@eap.gov.
